Mitch McConnell and other Senate Republicans demand the Biden administration revoke federal grants from schools that include the 1619 project in their curriculum

Sen. Minority Leader Mitch McConnell urged Education Secretary Miguel Cardona to encourage public schools to strip from their curricula projects that he claims promotes "revisionism" of US history.
In a letter dated April 29, McConnell and 38 other Senate Republicans specifically referenced the New York Times' 1619 Project, created to mark the date Africans arrived on American grounds. The project's goal to is place "the consequences of slavery and the contributions of black Americans at the very center of our national narrative."
McConnell said the 1619 Project and other programs strive to "reorient" US history "away from their intended purposes toward a politicized and divisive agenda."
"Actual, trained, credentialed historians with diverse political views have debunked the project's many factual and historical errors, such as the bizarre and inaccurate notion that preserving slavery was a primary driver of the American Revolution," the letter says.
Since its 2019 launch, the project has received criticism and pushback, namely from Republican lawmakers and white historians.
Some states have begun to implement the project in their curriculum. But the Education Department has not directly told public schools to use or incorporate it. Usually, school curriculum falls at the discretion of state governments rather than any federal agency.
But under President Joe Biden, the Education Department has floated the possibility of offering grants to schools that include the 1619 Project and similar materials in their learning plans.
"We request that you withdraw these Proposed Priorities and refocus on civic education and American history programs that will empower future generations of citizens to continue making our nation the greatest force for good in human history," the letter says.
The Education Department did not immediately respond to Insider's request for comment. The department is taking comments on the proposed grants until until May 19.
In a statement to the Hill, an Education Department spokesperson characterized the inclusion of materials like the 1619 Project in school curricula as a chance to take seriously the country's history of systemic inequality and racism.
"The background of the Notice of Proposed Priorities includes examples of how institutions and individuals are finally acknowledging the legacy of systemic inequities in this country and paying attention to it," the spokesperson said. "The Department welcomes comments on the Proposed Priorities until May 19, 2021."

What are McConnell, and the other 'white boys', thinking in what I consider to be 'white supremist' garbage highlighted in bold in the article above? Since WHEN has the purpose of American history been to provide a non-politicized, non-divisive agenda specifically? Are they not seeing the whole picture here? Why would they even 'go there' along those lines of thought?
MY understanding of American history is the truth....the facts, hence history, of EVERY color, nationality, race, etc., who came together to build what is indeed American history allowing us to hear those voices speak from the graves, land, sea, sky, the hearts of those who shaped it....and ours going forward. What WILL our history be?
It is extremely sad, beyond unfortunate, that we are not considered as being equal, despite the fact that we were all created equal, and should be living IN EQUALITY. It is also painful to read the history as it has enfolded, based on untruths and truths, that we have NOT been, nor considered other's as being, equal, and, supremacy has existed in every color, nationality, race.
The 'white boys' have revised history long enough.....and shaped America in such a way as to get us to where we are today. And it's not pretty.
Note, that as I write all this, you need to know I am white.
When I was in grade school, they taught us that Africa was this LITTLE TINY continent per the maps. It's WAY not. Check the maps.
Indians were our friends that helped us.....but they didn't tell us we tried to kill them all off and moved them off their land, so white man could take over.
NOTHING was said about slavery where I came from. I sang and danced to songs that black people wrote and sang, performed, but never met a black person until high school. There was ONE in my school. I never understood why there were riots in the south. All I knew was that black people could write and sing and perform wonderfully and expected they had been raised with a lot of love.
As I got older, I learned more. I was aghast, broken hearted, that I was lied to and not given full truths, and, most importantly, I learned my heart could break on greater levels, for people I didn't even know, who had been hurt by the violent abusive nature of others, that lies were perpetuated, lack of truths were prevalent, unspoken words were killers....by those with the same color of skin as mine....those I was raised to trust....leaders of our nation, the police, teachers, even my family....and others.
Every nationality has experienced different levels of discrimination, and not just from 'the 'whites'. White folk have been discriminated against and abused, as well. And though you may say 'WAY' not on the same level as others, I agree that some nationalities and races have faced a great deal more from the whites. At least that is apparent in America. But you cannot exclude the nationality cast that occurred before and after the Statue of Liberty, as folks discriminated against each other, as they reached America from foreign shores.
As people came to America, there was a cast system whereby some nationalities were more accepted than others, and wealth measured a lot of it. In the city of New York, to this day, and elsewhere, you will find different nationalities home unitedly in varying locales. People kept to themselves, which continues to keep us apart.
When I moved to the city I live now, I wanted to live where there was a variety of nationalities, races. I wanted to get to know my neighbors, different cultures, so we could all learn, grow, and come together. And yet, I've been met with exclusion, abuse, threats, gun fire, my front door has been kicked in, even though I live quietly, respect all, and help when and where I can. Yet, I cannot get help when I need it, and, when I do, tho' I have given freely, I am told I have to pay others to help me, if they bother to show up....because they believe that, since I am white, I must have money, and, oh ya....somehow they seem to think I owe them something.....or they don't have time. Even tho' I've given up my time to help them when needed....immediately....in the proverbial 'New York second', never asked for anything, just freely given of my heart.
So I've learned to believe differently, because of how they have taught me, perhaps wrongly, that they have no heart....at least not a heart of fullness, inclusiveness, like mine. How we learn and grow, and come together on those terms, I see cannot be achieved. At least it has not been achieved yet. Does no one else understand we have the same Father....God? The way we all go about our life gives new meaning to 'broken family' in God's eyes, I am sure. And it must be breaking his heart.
When I was a little girl, my Mom would tell me when I was trying to make friends, that others just needed time to get to know me. Seems no one wants to take the time any more to get to know anyone. People push others away without even trying to get to know them, many times, due to preconceived ideas, real or not, of who others are, or how they live, or the color of their skin, or their experience with another person of the other's color, etc.
It's a sad commentary to lump all people into one category of generalization. Because one person, or group of people are bad, or different, or 'weird', or great, does not mean all will be of that nationality, group, etc. No one seems to want to look at the heart or the soul of another individual. They merely escape into their own.
However, I have found myself lately guilty of that same thing when reading political remarks which give way to folly, among other things. About which I wonder....whatever happened to 'We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their Creator with certain unalienable Rights, that among these are Life, Liberty and the pursuit of Happiness.' AND, We the People of the United States, in Order to form a more perfect Union, establish Justice, insure domestic Tranquility, provide for the common defence, promote the general Welfare, and secure the Blessings of Liberty to ourselves and our Posterity, do ordain and establish this Constitution for the United States of America.'
Perhaps our leaders should reread The Declaration of Independence and The Constitution of the United States of America. Perhaps we all should. Perhaps it needs to be amended or modified for better outcomes.
Perhaps we should all look in greater detail within the confines of whatever book is used for enlightenment, knowledge, and wisdom from our higher power, whoever that might be for others. As you know, I look to God, Jesus, Holy Spirit within the Bible, and within my heart and mind where they reside, and, when I listen, I hear them....heart to heart. We should all then apply what we've learned from such.
Perhaps we should all ask ourselves how we got here, too. Before or after Ms. Liberty. I'm certain Mitch McConnell didn't drop from heaven. If his ancestors had not been allowed in, either before or after Ms. Liberty, he would not even be in existence perhaps. Who knows who his relatives met as a result of their 'new shore experience', which helped grow him into creation. Will he want to rewrite the history of his wife's Taiwan family in America as well?
Are any of us asking ourselves what the dreams of those who came before us might be, for themselves, for us....their future? From those in our family and beyond....what we find in the Declaration of Independence and the United States Constitution? Have we considered what our responsibility is to ensure the future of those who live beyond us, or who surround us? Do you like what you see of America today? Can you help right our course? How?
I wonder what would happen if everyone in the world took one day....just one....turned off all electronic devices, fasted, talked in whispers within each home, did not go anywhere, and looked at themselves, their lives, and outside themselves to God, at the future as it is heading, and, then, considered how they would like it to be. And then asked God, "What do you need me to do?"
Sometimes things we learn will be true.....sometimes they may not be. We must do our own research, chart our own path to finding truth, and take the journey of stepping up and stepping out to right the wrongs, rise above the fray to create heartfelt, truth based choices in reaching out, learning, growing, with the goal of coming together as one....united in all things good, honorable, pure, loving, kind, trustworthy.
Like in The Bible, The New Testament, Philippians 4:4-9 where Paul is quoted as having said, "Always be full of joy in the Lord. I say it again - rejoice! Let everyone see that you are considerate in all you do. Remember, the Lord is coming soon.
Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand. His peace, will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.
And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter. Fix your throughs on what is true and honorable and right. Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise. Keep putting into practice al you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you."
May we all keep our focus on, and pray to the LORD that he help us in all ways!

Let Us Pray
God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, please forgive me of my sins, heal me, restore me, help me reach out to others in peace, and love....better. May my love be for you first, and then love my neighbor, as myself. Help me to learn the truths you freely give about yourself, life, and how to live life better to ensure I receive eternal life, and share those truths. Help me to leave a better history for America. Carry me when I need you, give me strength to walk with you....beside you, and courage to follow your lead. May the truths of all those who have gone before us in America be shared to right the wrongs. Knowing that real, abiding reparation can only truly occur through facts being shared, truths being heard, pain being acknowledged, the past embraced, apologies given for the sins of the fathers....and ourselves, hearts being received, and forgiveness being given from the heart, with steps designed for a better future. May we all be forgiven of our sins, healed, restored, and love....better. We have so much more work to do....let it not be insurmountable. I thank you. I love you. I praise you....in victory declared in advance. Amen.
