Human Rights & Religious Rights

1 John 2:1-6

1 John

My dear children, I am writing this to you so that you will not sin.  But if you do sin, there is someone to pleads for you before the Father.  He is Jesus Christ, the one who pleases God completely.  He is the sacrifice for our sins.  He takes away not only our sins but the sins of all the world.

And how can you be sure that we belong to him?  By obeying his commandments.  If someone says, "I belong to God," but doesn't obey God's commandments, that person is a liar and does not live in him.  Those who say they live in God should live their lives as Christ did.

Thoughts....

This is the message he has given us to announce to you:  God is light and there is no darkness in him at all.  So we are lying if we say we have fellowship with God but go on living in spiritual darkness.  We are not living in the truth.  But if we are living in the light of God's presence, just as Christ is, then we have fellowship with each other, and the blood of Jesus, his son, cleanses us from every sin.

If we say we have no sin, we are only fooling ourselves and refusing to accept the truth.  But if we confess our sins to him, he is faithful and just to forgive us and to cleanse us from every wrong.  If we claim we have not sinned, we are calling God a liar and showing that this world has no place in our hearts. 1 John 1:5-10

There is a difference between Human Rights and Religious Rights.

The definition of Human Right is the following, per the world wide web:

Noun, Human rights (plural noun) a right that is believed to belong justifiably to every person.

Per Wikipedia that definition goes a bit further....

Human rights are moral principles or norms that describe certain standards of human behaviour and are regularly protected in municipal and international law. They are commonly understood as inalienable, fundamental rights "to which a person is inherently entitled simply because she or he is a human being" and which are "inherent in all human beings", regardless of their age, ethnic origin, location, language, religion, ethnicity, or any other status. They are applicable everywhere and at every time in the sense of being universal, and they are egalitarian in the sense of being the same for everyone. They are regarded as requiring empathy and the rule of law and imposing an obligation on persons to respect the human rights of others, and it is generally considered that they should not be taken away except as a result of due process based on specific circumstances.//

Giving people human rights under the law protects freedom of choice for all.  It is NOT about taking the Christian's/religious person's choices away.  It is in essence saying your religious rights are YOUR rights.  You are also entitled to human rights under the law that protects your freedom of choice.

All peoples vs Christian choice.

Your Christian religious choice is NOT being threatened, but your religious choice should NOT be forced, or be a threat, upon others' human rights....or their religious rights and choices, whatever they may be.

Nor does a human right under the law force you to choose something other than what you believe in.

Think of a right as a privilege.

Nor is anyone ever going to demand that those who are prolife get an abortion.

Christians have a right to believe what they want, how they choose, and what they choose.  Everyone should have the same right regardless of religion or lack thereof.

Human rights offers the same to all - allowing everyone the right to believe what they want, and to choose what they choose, however they choose.

As a Christian, a Pastor, I can show the path to the Way (God), the Truth (Holy Spirit), the Light (Jesus).  I cannot shove it down anyone's throat.

I can make a hankie to be sold at a store, but I can't make people buy it, or use it.

I can cry over the neighbor's dogs who are being neglected, but I am powerless over their care, and the choices of their owners.

I can walk a mile in my sister's shoes and never understand perhaps the 'why' behind her choices, and even knowing may not help me accept, or better understand.

But I can pray that I make right, or different, or better choices....decisions....knowing I am not perfect, and, we both have the opportunity for forgiveness, because we do have the same God, regardless of his name, should we sin....which we will....on most every level in life.

No one can truly know another's heart, except God.  Let the laws of  Human Rights stand.

So....who is the sinner?  The one calling names, breaking spirits, causing upset, pain, suffering, or, the person freeing their unborn into the safety and blessedness of God's arms again?

Will you judge?  Would you want your human rights taken away?

   Let Us Pray

God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, help us....all.  In shoes, moccasins, boots, or barefoot, we all walk.  When we walk, let us look deep into our hearts, and keep our mouths shut.  Lest what we have will be stripped from us, because we have conflicted, hurt, ostracized, hated, attacked, ridiculed, judged....another.  Help us to remain in your love, as you tell us, as documented historically in John 15:9.  In Jesus' name I pray, by and with the power of the Holy Spirit, to dear Heavenly Father God.  Amen.  We praise you.  We thank you.  We love you.  Amen.

  Benediction....Blessing

Let us hear from Paul as he prays:

When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.  And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him.  May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love.  And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it.  Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Now glory be to God!  By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.  May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages.  Amen.  Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT

Definition of a Christian:  Anyone who believes in God, Jesus and Holy Spirit, and accepts Jesus as Lord and Savior.  Regardless of church name or religious affiliation.

'All who have been united with Christ in baptism have been made like him.  There is no longer Jew or Gentile, slave or free, male or female.  For you are all Christians - you are ONE in Christ Jesus.'  Galatians 3: 27

  Our Continual Cause

It is time to reach into the community and the world around you to see wherein lies the greatest need.  As you choose to focus on these areas, do so with a servant's heart.  Whether the need is for children, adults, animals, the earth, or any cause in between that will help those in need, ask God how you can best serve his needs, what path you must take, and how long you should persevere.  Sometimes we are to be in the lives of others merely as stepping stones.  Sometimes we are to touch those lives forever.  Whatever journey you are called to take, whatever team you will be a member, know this:  God is with you always...even til the end of time.  He loves you, is grateful for you, and will help you along life's way, especially if you are helping others along theirs, persevering with a servant's heart.

Please accept my sincerest thanks....and God's....and may God richly bless you !

  One last thing....

Jesus' Prayer of Thanksgiving

'The Unforced Rhythms of Grace'

"Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer:  "Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.  You've concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people.  Yes, Father, that's the way you like to work."

Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly.  "The Father has given me all these things to do and say.  This is a unique Father - Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge.  No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does.  But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen."

"Are you tired?  Worn out?  Burned out on religion?  Come to me.  Get away with me and you'll recover your life.  I'll show you how to take a real rest.  Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn how to live freely and lightly.

Matthew 11:  25-30

  The Message

And the people said,

"Amen."

I now write most prayers in the position of ' I ' (first person) because most people are sitting at their computer alone, not in groups, and it allows those reading and praying to personalize the prayer as coming from them going to God.  Variations may appear on holidays when families may wish to use the prayer provided.  I encourage you to pray your own prayers as well.

NOTE:  I said it long ago, but let me say it again.  If you are wanting to lead a group, start a church, or are confined in an institution, or live in a country where the Gospel is not preached, and you don't know what to say or how to say it, and yet feel led to share, teach, or preach, besides just reading straight out of the Bible and sharing what God puts on your heart, please feel free to share any or all of what I've written, if it will help you, as long as you include where it comes from, due to copyright laws.  Jesus gave God's love and healing freely, as well as his message.  Our responsibility is to get the Word out to those who need to hear it.  If what I've written....by the power and direction of the Holy Spirit....or what he has said through me....has helped you, it may help others that you know.  You are welcome to share it.  God calls all of us to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with the world.  Please share it with the fullness of love that God, Jesus, Holy Spirit....and I....have given it.  Amen!
