Move The Mountains

Matthew 21:21

Matthew

Then Jesus told them, "I assure you, if you have faith and don't doubt, you can do things like this and much more.  You can even say to this mountain, 'May God lift you up and throw you into the sea, ' and it will happen.  If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

Thoughts....

Last week we learned that John Lewis, in 2017 said, "Our struggle is not the struggle of a day, a week, a month, or a year," he said, "it is the struggle of a life time."  Getting into "Good Trouble" became his motto for life.

It should be ours as well.

Ladies and Gentleman, Brothers and Sisters, young and old alike, this is not just about a struggle for equality. This is a struggle between good and evil.

Satan would have us, and keep us all down, out, apart, hated, abused, traumatized, dead, and more.  It is Satan's job, and that of his assigns, to kill, steal and destroy.

The Apostle John tells us in The New Testament in John 10:10, that Jesus said, "The thief's [Satan] purpose is to steal and kill and destroy.  My purpose is to give life in all its fullness."

God's, Jesus', Holy Spirit's job....and ours....is to unify, uplift, embrace, enjoin, love, and help heal.  We do this by teaching others 'How great THOU art'.

'Good trouble' is about moving mountains.  The first mountain to move is Satan, with all the negatives, the lies, the hatred, the divisiveness, and more, that keep us away from God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, and God's people....and those needing God....those seeking to become one with Him.

In Matthew 21:21, we read, 'Then Jesus told them, "I assure you, if you have faith and don't doubt, you can do things like this and much more.  [He had just cursed a fruitful fig tree and it withered.]  You can even say to this mountain,  'May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,' and it will happen.  If you believe, you will receive whatever you ask for in prayer."

But Mark noted a bit more of what Jesus said in Mark 11:22-26.  Let's read that historical documentation. "Then Jesus said to the disciples, "Have faith in God.  I assure you that you can say to this mountain, 'May God lift you up and throw you into the sea,' and your command will be obeyed.  All that's required is that you really believe and do not doubt in your heart.  Listen to me!  [Note the exclamation point as Jesus emphasized his heartfelt message.]  You can pray for anything, and if you believe, you will have it.  But when you are praying, first forgive anyone you are holding a grudge against, so that your Father in heaven will forgive your sins, too."

Jesus taught us to pray about that as referenced in Matthew 6:9-14, saying, "Pray like this:

Our Father in heaven, may your name be honored.

May your kingdom come soon.

May your [YOUR] will be done here on earth, just as it is in heaven.

Give us our food for today, and forgive us [PLEASE] our sins, just as we have [HAVE] forgiven those who have sinned against us.

And don't [DON'T] let us yield to temptation, but deliver us from the evil one."

He goes on to say, "If you forgive those who sin against you, your heavenly Father will [WILL] forgive you.  But if you refuse to forgive others, your Father will not [NOT] forgive your sins.

And Luke recorded more that Jesus said, as we find in Luke 11:9-10,  "And so I tell you, keep on asking, and you will [WILL] be given what you ask for.  Keep on looking, and you will [WILL] find.  Keep on knocking, and the door will [WILL] be opened.  For everyone [EVERYONE] who [belongs to the Father through Jesus] asks, receives.  Everyone [EVERYONE] who seeks, finds.  And the door is  [IS] opened to everyone [EVERYONE] who knocks."

And when we need more help to move that mountain of hate, or whatever mountain needs to move, we can, lift our eyes to the mountains, because our Lord is there.  Our help comes from the Lord, the Maker of Heaven and Earth.  Psalm 121:1-2 paraphrased.

"Trust in the LORD with all your heart, do not depend on your own understanding.  Seek his will in all you do, and he will direct your paths."  Proverbs 3:1-2.

   Let Us Pray

God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, help us all!  In your Holy Name, you have made us one - equal - having many parts, but all one body.  Help us, Lord, to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.  And guide our hearts and minds to vote for the only person, so named, Joseph Biden, who will help bring America into being whole as he leads, praying, WITH you at the helm, for a nation raised from it's roots in your Holy Name, while you heal us all.  Help us be mindful and purposeful in our attempts to do "Good Trouble" as we "Reach Out" in equality.  Lord God, we have so many mountains to move of varying heights and demands.  Be in the valleys with us as we begin to climb, and continue to ascend dizzying heights. Heavenly Father God, in Jesus' name, may we ALL pray, by and with the power of the Holy Spirit.  May we all praise you, and thank you, and love you.  Amen.

The Message....

He Ain't Heavy, He's My Brother

The Hollies

The road is long
With many a winding turn
That leads us to who knows where
Who knows when
But I'm strong
Strong enough to carry him
He ain't heavy, he's my brother.

So on we go
His welfare is my concern
No burden is he to bear
We'll get there
For I know
He would not encumber me
He ain't heavy he's my brother

If I'm laden at all
I'm laden with sadness
That everyone's heart
Isn't filled with the gladness
Of love for one another.

It's a long, long road
From which there is no return
While we're on the way to there
Why not share
And the load
Doesn't weigh me down at all
He ain't heavy
He ain't heavy
He ain't heavy
He's my brother
He's my brother
He's my brother

NOTE:  “He Ain’t Heavy, He’s My Brother” was written by old-school musicians Bob Russell (1914-1970) and Bobby Scott (1937-1990). In fact Mr. Russell wrote the lyrics while simultaneously suffering from cancer. And it was the last hit he ever wrote, as he died less than six months after its release.

The Prayer....

The Lord's Prayer

Sung by Johnny Mathis

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
Thy will be done,
On earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread;
And forgive us our debts,
As we forgive our debtors; (As we forgive our debtors!)
And lead us not into temptation,

But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,
And the power, and the glory, forever!

Amen

The Hope....

Healing Rain

Michael W. Smith

Healing rain is coming down
It's coming nearer to this old town.
Rich and poor, weak and strong
It's bringing mercy, it won't be long.

Healing rain is coming down
It's coming closer to the lost and found.
Tears of joy and tears of shame
Are washed forever in Jesus' name.

Healing rain, it comes with fire
So let it fall and take us higher.
Healing rain, I'm not afraid
To be washed in Heaven's rain.

Lift your heads, let us return
To the mercy seat where time began.
And in your eyes I see the pain.
Come soak this dry heart with healing rain.
And only you, the Son of Man
Can take a leper and let him stand.
So lift your hands, they can be held
By someone greater, the Great I Am.

Healing rain, it comes with fire
So let it fall and take us higher.
Healing rain, I'm not afraid
To be washed in Heaven's rain.
To be washed in Heaven's rain.

Healing rain is falling down,
Healing rain is falling down,
I'm not afraid.
I'm not afraid.

Healing rain is falling down,
Healing rain is falling down,
I'm not afraid.
I'm not afraid.

Healing rain is falling down,
Healing rain is falling down,
I'm not afraid.
I'm not afraid.

Healing rain is falling down,
Healing rain is falling down,
I'm not afraid.
I'm not afraid.

Healing rain is falling down,
Healing rain is falling down,
I'm not afraid.
I'm not afraid.

The Truth....

Great Is Thy Faithfulness

Sung by CeCe Winans

Great is Thy faithfulness, O God my Father;
There is no shadow of turning with Thee;
Thou changest not, Thy compassions, they fail not;
As Thou hast been, Thou forever will be.[Chorus]

Great is Thy faithfulness!
Great is Thy faithfulness!
Morning by morning new mercies I see.
All I have needed Thy hand hath provided;
Great is Thy faithfulness, Lord, unto me!

Summer and winter and springtime and harvest,
Sun, moon and stars in their courses above
Join with all nature in manifold witness
To Thy great faithfulness, mercy and love.

[Chorus]

Pardon for sin and a peace that endureth
Thine own dear presence to cheer and to guide;
Strength for today and bright hope for tomorrow,
Blessings all mine, with ten thousand beside!

[Chorus]

NOTE:  Great Is Thy Faithfulness is a popular Christian hymn written by Thomas Chisholm with music composed by William M. Runyan in Baldwin City, Kansas, U.S. The phrase "great is thy faithfulness" comes from the Old Testament Book of Lamentations 3:23. These exact words occur in both the King James Bible and the Revised Standard Version.

The Walk....

Rise Up

By Andra Day

You're broken down and tired
Of living life on a merry go round
And you can't find the fighter
But I see it in you so we gonna walk it out
And move mountains
We gonna walk it out
And move mountains

And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
And I'll rise up
High like the waves
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousands times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

When the silence isn't quiet
And it feels like it's getting hard to breathe
And I know you feel like dying
But I promise we'll take the world to its feet
And move mountains
We'll take it to its feet
And move mountains

And I'll rise up
I'll rise like the day
I'll rise up
I'll rise unafraid
I'll rise up
And I'll do it a thousand times again
For you
For you
For you
For you

All we need, all we need is hope
And for that we have each other
And for that we have each other
We will rise
We will rise
We'll rise, oh oh
We'll rise

I'll rise up
Rise like the day
I'll rise up
In spite of the ache
I will rise a thousands times again
And we'll rise up
Rise like the waves
We'll rise up
In spite of the ache
We'll rise up
And we'll do it a thousands times again
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you oh oh oh oh oh
For you

Jesus is singing to us....

The Promise....

Hold On, I'm Comin'

Sam & Dave

Don't you ever be sad
Lean on me, when the times are bad
When the day comes and you're down
In a river of trouble and about to drown

Just hold on, I'm comin'
Hold on, I'm comin'

I'm on my way, your lover
If you get cold, yeah, I will be your cover
Don't have to worry, 'cause I'm here
No need to suffer, baby, 'cause I'm here

Just hold on, I'm comin'
Hold on, I'm comin'
Hold on, I'm comin'
Hold on, I'm comin'

Reach out to me for satisfaction, yeah
Call my name, yeah, for reaction
Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah

Now, don't you ever be sad
Lean on me, when the times are bad
When the day comes and you're down, baby
In a river of trouble and about to drown

Just hold on, I'm comin'
Hold on, I'm comin'

Just hold on
(Don't you worry)
I'm comin'
(Here we come)

Hold on
(We're about to save you)
I'm comin'
(Yeah)

Just hold on
(Don't you worry)
I'm comin'
(Here I come)

An Action....

Reach Out of the Darkness

Friend & Lover

I think it's so groovy now
That people are finally getting together
I thinks it's so wonderful and how
That people are finally getting together

Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
Reach out in the darkness
And you may find a friend

I knew a man that I did not care for
And then one day this man gave me a call
We sat and talked about things on our mind
And now this man he is a friend of mine

Don't be afraid of love
Don't be afraid, don't be afraid to love
Everybody needs a little love
Everybody needs somebody
That they can be thinking of

Jesus is singing this to you....guy or girl....right now....reach out to him....

Reach Out I'll Be There

Four Tops

Now if you feel that you can't go on
Because all of your hope is gone,
And your life is filled with much confusion
Until happiness is just an illusion,
And your world around is crumblin' down;
Darling, reach out (come on girl, reach on out for me)
Reach out (reach out for me.)
I'll be there, with a love that will shelter you.
I'll be there, with a love that will see you through.
I'll be there to always see you through.

When you feel lost and about to give up
'Cause your best just ain't good enough
And you feel the world has grown cold,
And you're drifting out all on your own,
And you need a hand to hold:
Darling, reach out (come on girl, reach out for me)
Reach out (reach out for me.)
I'll be there, to love and comfort you,
And I'll be there, to cherish and care for you.
I'll be there to love and comfort you.

I can tell the way you hang your head,
You're without love and now you're afraid
And through your tears you look around,
But there's no peace of mind to be found.
I know what you're thinkin',
You're alone now, no love of your own,
But darling, reach out (come on girl, reach out for me)
Reach out (reach out for me.)
Just look over your shoulder
I'll be there, to give you all the love you need,
And I'll be there, you can always depend on me.

Honoring God....expressing your gratitude....

How Great Thou Art

Sung by George Beverly Shea

O Lord my God,
When I in awesome wonder
Consider all
The works Thy Hand hath made,
I see the stars,
I hear the mighty thunder,
Thy pow'r throughout
The universe displayed,

When through the woods
And forest glades I wander
I hear the birds
Sing sweetly in the trees,
When I look down
From lofty mountain grandeur
And hear the brook
And feel the gentle breeze,

Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

When Christ shall come,
With shouts of acclamation,
And take me home,
What joy shall fill my heart!
Then I shall bow
In humble adoration
And there proclaim,
"My God, how great Thou art!"

Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!
Then sings my soul,
My Savior God, to Thee,
How great Thou art!
How great Thou art!

NOTE: From Wikipedia:

How Great Thou Art

Composition

"How Great Thou Art" is a Christian hymn based on a Swedish traditional melody and a poem written by Carl Boberg in Mönsterås, Sweden, in 1885. It was translated into German and then into Russian. It was translated into English from the Russian by English missionary Stuart K. Hine, who also added two original verses of his own. It was popularised by George Beverly Shea and Cliff Barrows during the Billy Graham crusades. It was voted the United Kingdom's favourite hymn by BBC's Songs of Praise. "How Great Thou Art" was ranked second on a list of the favourite hymns of all time in a survey by Christianity Today magazine in 2001.

Can you hear Jesus singing this to you now....?

Ain't No Mountain High Enough

Marvin GayeTammi Terrell

Listen baby, ain't no mountain high
Ain't no valley low, ain't no river wide enough baby
If you need me call me no matter where you are
No matter how far don't worry baby
Just call my name I'll be there in a hurry
You don't have to worry

'Cause baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

Remember the day I set you free
I told you you could always count on me darling
From that day on, I made a vow
I'll be there when you want me
Some way, some how

'Cause baby there ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

Oh no darling
No wind, no rain
Or winters cold can stop me baby, na na baby
'Cause you are my goal
If you're ever in trouble
I'll be there on the double
Just send for me, oh baby, ha

My love is alive
Way down in my heart
Although we are miles apart
If you ever need a helping hand
I'll be there on the double
Just as fast as I can
Don't you know that there

Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
To keep me from getting to you babe

Don'tcha know that there
Ain't no mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough
Ain't no river wide enough
Ain't mountain high enough
Ain't no valley low enough

  Benediction....Blessing

Let us hear from Paul as he prays:

When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.  And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him.  May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love.  And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it.  Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Now glory be to God!  By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.  May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages.  Amen.  Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT

It is time to reach into the community and the world around you to see wherein lies the greatest need.  As you choose to focus on these areas, do so with a servant's heart.  Whether the need is for children, adults, animals, the earth, or any cause in between that will help those in need, ask God how you can best serve his needs, what path you must take, and how long you should persevere.  Sometimes we are to be in the lives of others merely as stepping stones.  Sometimes we are to touch those lives forever.  Whatever journey you are called to take, whatever team you will be a member, know this:  God is with you always...even til the end of time.  He loves you, is grateful for you, and will help you along life's way, especially if you are helping others along theirs, persevering with a servant's heart.

Jesus' Prayer of Thanksgiving

'The Unforced Rhythms of Grace'

"Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer:  "Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.  You've concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people.  Yes, Father, that's the way you like to work."

Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly.  "The Father has given me all these things to do and say.  This is a unique Father - Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge.  No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does.  But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen."

"Are you tired?  Worn out?  Burned out on religion?  Come to me.  Get away with me and you'll recover your life.  I'll show you how to take a real rest.  Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn how to live freely and lightly.

Matthew 11:  25-30
