The Truth That Sets Us Free

Acts 13: 32 - 33

Acts 

And now Barnabas and I are here to bring you this Good News.  God's promis to our ancestors has come true in our own time, in that God raised Jesus.  This is what the second psalm is talking about when it says concerning Jesus, 'You are my Son.  Today I have become your Father.'

  Thoughts....

God raised Jesus....from the dead....that we may be free....be free indeed.

Free from the opression of guilt for our sins.

Free from being bound to hell because of those sins.

Free to go to heaven having been freed from our sins if we obey God.

God.  Who is God?

God is the person who created the universe and everything in it.

God is Jesus' Father.  It is God who give us life on this earth and Jesus who offere everlasting life if we believe and obey....to show ourselves approved.  So God is our Father, too.

So what is the truth that sets us free?

Jesus is the truth that sets us free.

God is the truth that sets us free.

Just as God set Jesus free, we, too, can experience resurrection from the dead and receive eternal life.

You may say, "Oh, that's fine for you, you're a Pastor, a 'goody 2 shoes'.  But folks, the same God who gave us life, offers us eternal life through Jesus.  Just as Jesus was resurrected from the dead, we, too, will be resurrected and be raised to new life.

"But how, Pastor?" you ask.

"Believe and obey, there's no other way."

Believe in God and Jesus.

Ask to be forgiven of your sins, and obey.  See John 15 in the New Testament.  I believe I just went over this last week or the week before.

Trust.

"See the Lord while he may be found; call on him while he is near."  Isaiah 55:6

"You will go out in joy and be led forth in peace.  Isaiah 55:12

Let God become your Father today!

Let Jesus become your Savior today!

Read the truth of Jesus' life in the New Testament.  Learn about who God is.  Realize all they can do for you and what you need to do for them.

As you read and learn more, you will learn all about THE Truth that sets us all free.

  Let Us Pray

God, Jesus, Holy Spirit, help me to learn more about who you are, so that I may be free, from my sins, from hell, so that I may go to heaven, if I but believe and obey. I choose to turn my life over to you.  I ask forgiveness for my sins.  I ask you to come into my life and make me whole.  And I ask you to show me how to obey....you.  Thank you for doing all these things.  I know from what I have read already that you will indeed forgive me of my sins, because I have asked.  But I know that is not enough.  I've asked you to come into my life.  But that is not enough.  I must show myself approved.  And for that, I must obey....you.  I must, according to Philippians 4:8-9, fix my thoughts on what is pure and honorable and right.  Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  And I must keep puttting into practice all I learn from, and hear, and see being done from those who have honored, or are honoring Christ Jesus, so you, God, THE God of peace will be with me.  I also must not worry about anything; instead pray about everything, telling you, God, what I need, and thank you for everything.  If I do this, your peace will guard my heart and mind as I live in Christ Jesus.  Thank you God, Jesus, Holy Spirit for giving me life and showing me how to live it abundantly, so that I may one day receive eternal life.  Thank you, too, for getting me this far.  I appreciate you so much....my gratitude knows no bounds.  May I live much longer, and, may you allow me, and my loved ones, a flourishing finish.  I thank you.  I love you.  I praise you.  Amen.

Let us hear from Paul as he prays:  

When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.  And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him.  May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love.  And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it.  Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Now glory be to God!  By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.  May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages.  Amen.  Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT

  Our Continual Cause

It is time to reach into the community and the world around you to see wherein lies the greatest need.  As you choose to focus on these areas, do so with a servant's heart.  Whether the need is for children, adults, animals, the earth, or any cause in between that will help those in need, ask God how you can best serve his needs, what path you must take, and how long you should persevere.  Sometimes we are to be in the lives of others merely as stepping stones.  Sometimes we are to touch those lives forever.  Whatever journey you are called to take, whatever team you will be a member, know this:  God is with you always...even til the end of time.  He loves you, is grateful for you, and will help you along life's way, especially if you are helping others along theirs, persevering with a servant's heart.

Jesus' Prayer of Thanksgiving

'The Unforced Rhythms of Grace'

"Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer:  "Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.  You've concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people.  Yes, Father, that's the way you like to work."

Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly.  "The Father has given me all these things to do and say.  This is a unique Father - Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge.  No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does.  But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen."

"Are you tired?  Worn out?  Burned out on religion?  Come to me.  Get away with me and you'll recover your life.  I'll show you how to take a real rest.  Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you.
