The Gift of Peace

John 14: 27

John

Jesus said, "I am leaving you with a gift - peace of mind and heart.  And the peace I give isn't like the peace the world gives.  So don't be troubled or afraid."

Thoughts.....

I remember this text best from the King James Version having learned it as a child.  It reads "Peace I leave with you, my peace I give unto you:  not as the world giveth, give I unto you.  Let not your heart be troubled, neither let it be afraid."

 Paul tells us in Romans 5:1-2:

"Therefore, since we have been made right in God's sight by faith, we have peace with God because of what Jesus Christ our Lord has done for us.  Because of our faith, Christ has brought us into this place of highest privilege where we now stand, and we confidently and joyfully look forward to sharing God's glory."

This place of highest privilege is peace with God.....

Is this our faith in God or God's faith in us?  Both.

Have you been made right in God's sight by faith?   If you have not been made right, nor have faith, please read the entry text of this page....that you might believe and have faith in....God, Jesus, and Holy Spirit....and they might have faith in you.  Or to renew your relationship with them.  This moment in time is your opportunity to live a new life.

Paul tells us in Roman's 12: 1-2:

"And so, dear brothers and sisters, I plead with you to give your bodies to God.  Let them be a living and holy sacrifice - the kind he will accept. When you think of what he has done for you, is it too much to ask?  Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform you into a new person by changing the way you think.  Then you will know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing and perfect his will really is."

Paul now tells us in Ephesians 6:10-18:

"Be strong with the Lord's mighty power.  Put on all of God's armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies and tricks of the Devil.  For we are not fighting against people made of flesh and blood, but against the evil rulers and authorities of the unseen world, against those mighty powers of darkness who rule this world, and against wicked spirits in the heavenly realms. [Wicked spirits in the heavenly realms ???!!!]

"Use every piece of God's armor to resist the enemy in the time of evil, so that after the battle you will still be standing firm.  Stand your ground, putting on the sturdy belt of truth and the body of armor of God's righteousness.  For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared.  In every battle you will need faith as your shield to stop the fiery arrows aimed at you by Satan.  Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit which is the word of God.  Pray at all times and on every occasion in the power of the Holy Spirit.  Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all Christians everywhere."

In Ephesians 4:1-2 Paul compels us:

"Therefore I, a prisoner for serving the Lord, beg you to lead a life worthy of your calling, for you have been called by God.  Be humble and gentle.  Be patient with each other, making allowance for each other's faults because of your love[for God and each other as we are commanded to do].  Always keep yourselves united in the Holy Spirit, and bind yourselves together with peace."

The letter to the Galatians...and to us....spells out clearly the fruits given from the Holy Spirit to help us do this in verse 5:22:

"But when the Holy Spirit controls our lives, he will produce this kind of fruit in us:  love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control."

Per the letter to the Galatians 6:15b-16:

"What counts is whether we really have been changed into new and different people.  May God's mercy and peace be upon all those who live by this principle.  They are the new people of God."  [Amen and Alleluia!]

So....

"Don't worry about anything, instead pray about everything.  Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done.  If you do this, you will experience God's peace, which is far more wonderful than the human mind can understand.  His peace will guard your hearts and minds as you live in Christ Jesus.

And now, dear brothers and sisters, let me say one more thing as I close this letter.  Fix your thoughts on what is true and honorable and right.  Think about things that are pure and lovely and admirable. Think about things that are excellent and worthy of praise.  Keep putting into practice all you learned from me and heard from me and saw me doing, and the God of peace will be with you."  From Paul...in the letter to the Philippians 4:6-9

Ahhhhh....."...the peace of God, which passeth all understanding..."  KJV.

Thank you, God.  Amen.

Let Us Pray

Lord, Lord, Lord....please forgive me of my sins, place in me the gifts of your Holy Spirit, help me be a living and holy sacrifice for you, and bring on the peace that passes all understanding....please.  Show me all the ways I need to become new for you, and with you, and in you....and recognize/receive/embrace fully you in me, and with me, as you surround me....for me.  May I always embody you.  And as I open my mouth to speak, may the words be your words from your heart expressing your love.   I cannot do this by myself, but only as you lead and direct...guide me.  May I never leave your arms of embrace, your heart of love, your life for life.  Please help me to share who you are, that you are, and how wonderful you are to others, and the wonderful gift you have of forgiveness of sins and eternal life for everyone in the world....if they only believe and have faith.  Thank you so very much for loving me and not giving up on me.  I love you mind, body, spirit and soul....completely....now help me to show you that by my actions.  'Try' is not an action verb, 'do' is....so I've said before, but I 'try' a lot...and 'do' as well.  Let me do all I can as I can to share your gospel....documented history of your life Jesus....so that all may be saved, and not fall short of the glory of God.  To you goes the glory.  All honor and glory is yours Divine Majesty.  Thank you.  Amen.

Dear God

I want to thank You for what you have already done.
I am not going to wait until I see results or receive rewards;
I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until I feel better or things look better;
I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until people say they are sorry or until
   they stop talking about me;
I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until the pain in my body disappears;
I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until my financial situation improves;
I am going to thank you right now.
I am not going to wait until the children are asleep and the house is quiet;
I am going to thank you right now.
I am not going to wait until I get promoted at work or until I get the job;
I am going to thank you right now.
I am not going to wait until I understand every experience in my life
   that has caused me pain or grief;
I am thanking you right now.
I am not going to wait until the journey gets easier or the challenges
  are removed;
I am thanking you right now.
I am thanking you because I am alive.
I am thanking you because I made it through the day's difficulties.
I am thanking you because I have walked around the obstacles.
I am thanking you because I have the ability and the opportunity to
  do more and do better.
I'm thanking you because, Father, YOU haven't given up on me.

More love....

  Benediction...Blessing

Let us hear from Paul as he prays:

When I think of the wisdom and scope of God's plan, I fall to my knees and pray to the Father, the Creator of everything in heaven and on earth.  I pray that from his glorious, unlimited resources he will give you mighty inner strength through his Holy Spirit.  And I pray that Christ will be more and more at home in your hearts as you trust in him.  May your roots go down deep into the soil of God's marvelous love.  And may you have the power to understand, as all God's people should, how wide, how long, how high, and how deep his love really is.  May you experience the love of Christ, though it is so great you will never fully understand it.  Then you will be filled with the fullness of life and power that comes from God.

Now glory be to God!  By his mighty power at work within us, he is able to accomplish infinitely more than we would ever dare to ask or hope.  May he be given glory in the church and in Christ Jesus forever and ever through endless ages.  Amen.  Ephesians 3:14-21 NLT

 to

 "Go and make disciples out of all the nations

baptizing them in the name of the Father and the Son and the Holy Spirit.

Teach these new disciples to obey all the commands I have given you.  And be sure of this:

I am with you always, even to the end of the age."

  Our Current Cause

It is time to reach into the community and the world around you to see wherein lies the greatest need.  As you choose to focus on these areas, do so with a servant's heart.  Whether the need is for children, adults, or animals, or any cause in between that will help those in need, ask God how you can best serve his needs, what path you must take, and how long you should persevere.  Sometimes we are to be in the lives of others merely as stepping stones.  Sometimes we are to touch those lives forever.  Whatever journey you are called to take, whatever team you will be a member, know this:  God is with you always...even til the end of time.  He loves you, is grateful for you, and will help you along life's way, especially if you are helping others along theirs, persevering with a servant's heart.

Please accept my sincerest thanks....and God's....and may God richly bless you!

    One last thing....

 Jesus' Prayer of Thanksgiving

'The Unforced Rhythms of Grace'

"Abruptly Jesus broke into prayer:  "Thank you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth.  You've concealed your ways from sophisticates and know-it-alls, but spelled them out clearly to ordinary people.  Yes, Father, that's the way you like to work."

Jesus resumed talking to the people, but now tenderly.  "The Father has given me all these things to do and say.  This is a unique Father - Son operation, coming out of Father and Son intimacies and knowledge.  No one knows the Son the way the Father does, nor the Father the way the Son does.  But I'm not keeping it to myself; I'm ready to go over it line by line with anyone willing to listen."

"Are you tired?  Worn out?  Burned out on religion?  Come to me.  Get away with me and you'll recover your life.  I'll show you how to take a real rest.  Walk with me and work with me - watch how I do it.  Learn the unforced rhythms of grace.  I won't lay anything heavy or ill-fitting on you. Keep company with me and you'll learn how to live freely and lightly.

  Matthew 11:  25-30

  The Message

And the people said,

"Amen."

I now write most prayers in the position of ' I ' (first person) because most people are sitting at their computer alone, not in groups, and it allows those reading and praying to personalize the prayer as coming from them going to God.  Variations may appear on holidays when families may wish to use the prayer provided.
